Clarina Counselling & Psychotherapy
Hello there, my name is Garrett, and I’m very glad that you’re here.

A little bit about Me…

They say the best therapists are the ones who have walked in your shoes, and like so many individuals in their younger years I experienced periods of anxiety, substance abuse and self-esteem issues. My journey on the path to recovery first began with seeing a Psychotherapist, and it was through my own process of healing, growth and passion for self-development that led me to complete my own Psychotherapy training. As an empath and highly compassionate person, I have spent my career helping others, particularly those that are very vulnerable.
Prior to my Psychotherapy training I spent over 13 years in the Social Care Services in areas such as the Disability Sector, Children’s Residential Services, Addiction Services, and more recently, the Homelessness Sector.
I am a fully qualified therapist and a Fully Accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and I work with individuals from the age of 16 and over. I provide a safe and confidential space to individuals in which they can change and grow by learning how to break patterns of the past, so that they can live authentic and meaningful lives. My therapeutic approach is Integrative with a blend of Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, and Mindfulness Based Approaches. I am a long term Vipassana Practitioner and have recently been trained in Transcendental Meditation Techniques. I have a very keen interest in how we have learned to self-regulate, and manage our anxieties and stresses, additionally how trauma impacts our bodies and our way of thinking.
Our aim is to provide you with a safe, supportive and confidential environment and our commitment is to facilitate and support you on your journey of self-discovery and healing.

Psychodynamic Therapy
At Clarina Counselling & Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic Therapy delves into unconscious processes and past experiences to understand present-day difficulties. This therapeutic approach explores how early life experiences shape current behaviours and relationships. By fostering insight and self-awareness, psychodynamic therapy aims to resolve unresolved conflicts and promote emotional healing.
Person-Centred Therapy
Clarina Counselling & Psychotherapy provide Person-Centred Therapy, a humanistic approach that emphasises empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence. This therapy facilitates self-exploration and personal growth by creating a supportive and non-judgmental therapeutic environment where clients can freely express their thoughts and feelings.
CBT Therapy
Clarina Counselling & Psychotherapy offers Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to help individuals challenge and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. By targeting the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, CBT empowers clients to develop coping strategies and achieve lasting positive change in their lives.
Compassion Focused Therapy
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) at Clarina Counselling & Psychotherapy focuses on fostering self-compassion and empathy towards oneself and others. By cultivating a compassionate mindset, CFT helps individuals overcome shame, self-criticism, and develop healthier relationships.

What is psychotherapy, and how does it differ from counselling?Psychotherapy involves a more in-depth exploration of emotional issues and typically addresses deeper-rooted patterns and concerns. Counselling tends to focus on specific problems and finding solutions for them within a shorter timeframe.
-
How do I know if I need psychotherapy or counselling?I can help you determine the most suitable approach based on your individual needs and goals. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us for a consultation to discuss your concerns and explore your options.
-
How long does therapy typically last? The duration of therapy varies depending on factors such as the nature of your concerns, your goals for therapy, and your progress over time. Some clients may achieve their goals in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy.
-
Is therapy confidential?Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of therapy. I adhere to strict ethical guidelines and professional standards to ensure that your privacy is protected at all times. Exceptions to confidentiality are rare and typically involve situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.
-
What types of issues can therapy help with?Therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, stress management, self-esteem issues, and more. I have extensive expertise in various therapeutic approaches to address diverse concerns effectively.
-
What happens during the first therapy session?During the initial session, your therapist will gather information about your current concerns, personal history, and therapy goals. This session also provides an opportunity for you to ask questions, discuss your expectations for therapy, and build rapport.
-
How often will I need to attend therapy sessions? The frequency of therapy sessions depends on your individual needs and preferences. Initially, sessions may be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly to establish momentum and progress. Over time, session frequency may decrease as you make strides towards your therapy goals.
